Kimea (they/she) is a Black queer artist, student of abolition, and recent graduate from DePaul University’s masters program for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality studies. They’re a new member of Brave Space Alliance as of August 2022!!!
They are also a Black non binary lesbian—something that’s very important to their personal and political identity
They were born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Before coming to Chicago in September of 2021 they lived in Cincinnati, Ohio where they did their bachelor’s degree in English Literature and creative writing. The majority of their chosen family lives in Cincy so they visit whenever they can!
After experiencing the degrading environment of school systems committed to upholding white supremacy, Kimea is deeply invested in the intersection of art and liberation. Ultimately she aims to create and/or work for an art program that encourages Black youth (especially those that hold other and multiple marginalizing identities) to resist white supremacy and perfectionism in their work and to use art as a method for community building and abolitionist praxis.
They believe in busting open space for niggas to do nigga shit.
Lastly, they love watching shitty tv and bad movies, twerking, playing cards (and talking shit while playing cards), painting/drawing, documenting Black joy, cooking, and pouring out love to people who love and support them.
