Community Pantry Manager

Community Pantry Manager

Brave Space Alliance | Chicago, IL | Hyde Park-based, travel around South Side

$55,000 yearly salary, potential for benefits including healthcare and salary increases

This is a full-time role at Brave Space Alliance.

The Community Pantry Manager is responsible for overseeing and administering all programs, volunteer efforts, service-provision efforts, capacity building/ engagement, and reporting/ presenting as it pertains to the Community Pantry Program. The Community Pantry Manager reports directly to the Director of Programs and is responsible for supervising all other pantry programming staff.

Job Duties:

Program Creation and Administration

  1. Oversee implementation of BSA’s pantry programming
  2. Ensure programs and services prioritize the needs of TGNC/ BIPOC communities; particularly on the South and West sides of the city
  3. Develop new programs/initiatives as necessary, and assist in seeking funding for these programs/initiatives
  4. Ensure programs meet or come in under budget expectations and meet goals
  5. Supervise staff of Program Coordinators to assist in the implementation of programming

Community Engagement

  1. Serve as a community ambassador for Brave Space Alliance to Black and Brown queer and trans community of Chicago
  2. Recruit participants and clients for BSA pantry programming and services
  3. Track participation and overall community outreach of the Community Pantry Program
  4. Create and disseminate marketing for BSA pantry programming, services, and community opportunities in collaboration with the Director of Communications
  5. Build capacity and knowledge share by engaging with other mutual aid and like-minded organizations.

Volunteer coordination

  1. Conduct quarterly volunteer training and build volunteer list and capacity for the Community Pantry Program specifically
  2. Manage and deploy volunteer list to boost Brave Space Alliance’s capability to appear at community events, and conduct programming

Miscellaneous Duties

  1. Other duties as assigned by the CEO and COO
  2. Attend relevant meetings and committee sessions on behalf of BSA
  3. Regularly speak on behalf of the organization and how Pantry Programming specifically is performing and being executed

Professional Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years community organizing, and/or 2-5 years program experience in a nonprofit context
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate a wide range of different programs
  • Deep understanding of the intersections of race, trans/non-binary identity, and class
    • Further understanding of Food Sovereignty and how to organize around it
  • Experience organizing on Chicago’s South Side, especially in low-income and Black communities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and team-building skills
  • Ability to motivate and coordinate volunteers and other program staff
  • Capable of overseeing and evaluating program staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GSuite, and social media communication
  • Strong commitment to serving the trans community of Chicago
  • Strong commitment to intersectional justice and trans liberation
  • Robust and dynamic problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Job Requirements:

  • The position requires the ability to travel extensively within Chicago, primarily within the South Side
  • The position requires frequent internal communication about programs and finances
  • Must be able to work effectively within a community-based environment
